Happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Today marks the beginning of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and we couldn’t be happier to announce that we’re an official Champion for 2020! Now in its 17th year, Cybersecurity Awareness month is a collaborative partnership between government and industry aimed at boosting cybersecurity best practices among businesses, individuals, and non-profits.

The overarching theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2020 is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.” This couldn’t be more appropriate in the age of CoVID-19. The threat landscape has changed significantly since the pandemic began, and many of the technical safeguards that businesses used to rely on simply aren’t as effective with everyone working from home.

Hackers have also used the abundant fear and chaos of the past six months to increasingly target human weaknesses, rather than software vulnerabilities. The recent takeover of some of the world’s most prominent Twitter accounts, for example, began as a phone scam perpetrated by a Florida teenager.

The point is that cybersecurity has to be a responsibility shared by all of us. Technology is only part of the equation; our behaviors and actions in the digital world are just as, if not more, important. Practicing good “cyber hygiene” is important for organizations of all sizes.

Over the next month, we’ll share some real examples of cyberattacks that are happening now, along with tips to help you protect yourself. Happy October!
